Frequently Asked Questions
Who are LLL Oxfordshire meetings for?
Our meetings are for anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding, whatever that looks like for you. This includes expressing milk, combination feeding, chestfeeding, using a nursing supplementer, and tandem feeding.
Some people come because they’re facing a breastfeeding challenge and want practical help. Others come for information, reassurance, or simply to spend time with people who understand what they’re going through.
You don’t need to be having a problem to come. Whether you’re expecting a baby, feeding a newborn, navigating sleep, returning to work, breastfeeding a toddler, or thinking about weaning, you’re welcome.
Whoever you are, whatever your story is, we’re here to help.
What happens at a meeting?
Our meetings are informal, friendly and relaxed.
An accredited LLL Leader (breastfeeding counsellor) is there to answer questions and facilitate discussion, but there is no pressure to speak. You are welcome to join in, listen quietly, arrive late, leave early, feed your baby, change a nappy, or take a break whenever you need to.
Every meeting has a suggested topic, but there is always time for questions and discussion.
Do I need to book?
No. For our in-person meetings, you can simply turn up.
The registration links on this page provide additional information about each meeting, but booking is not required.
For our virtual meetings, you’ll need to use the meeting link to access the Zoom session.
If you’re not sure whether a meeting is right for you, please get in touch and we’ll be happy to help.
Can I come if I’m bottle feeding or expressing?
Yes. Many of the people who attend our meetings are expressing milk, combi-feeding, using donor milk, supplementing, or navigating feeding challenges. You are welcome however you are feeding your baby.
Can I bring my baby or older children?
Absolutely.
Babies are always welcome. Older children are welcome too. Our Bicester venue has plenty of space for toddlers to move around and play.
Can my partner, supporter or family member attend with me?
Partners are always welcome at our virtual antenatal sessions.
Our support meetings are usually a space for people who are pregnant or breastfeeding. However, if you need someone with you for practical, emotional or communication support, please get in touch. We will do everything we can to make attendance possible while maintaining a comfortable environment for everyone attending.
How can I get breastfeeding help outside meetings?
You don’t need to wait for a meeting if you need support.
We offer free one-to-one breastfeeding support locally by phone, email, messaging and video call. You can also access LLLGB’s national support services.
If meetings aren’t the right fit for you, we can still help.
Do I have to pay?
No. All our support services are free.
Our Leaders are trained volunteer breastfeeding counsellors who give their time to support families. Donations and memberships help us continue to provide free support, but there is never any charge to access help.
For more information, or to chat about how we can make attending easier for you, you’re welcome to email us or use the contact numbers on our Get Support page.
If you’re pregnant, you might also like to check out our online antenatal sessions.
